catch up time

Time flies when you’re having fun. Last week we handed in our first assessed piece of work and we just finished the nervous system component of human physiology for first year eeek.

Had my first full weekend in the flat without going out on the night since I got here I suppose it’s starting to settle down into more normal life now.

Went to see the SAW 5 film the other week which was a distinct disappointment but still better than SAW 4.

Sent some emails about voluntary work and work experience at the hospital but haven’t heard anything back yet.

Two of my flat mates have spent the night watching saw 1 where as ive been working on writing up my notes since 6pm shame I picked such a heavy work load course but I do love it so I’m not complaining that much.

Uni life and work load

Got the guts to have the cartilage of my ear pierced which was painless at the time but resulted in a night of no sleep as I stupidly got the side I sleep on pierced whoops.

The work load at uni is slowly building up first assessed lab report is due in on Friday its weird going from having the mark scheme at AS and A2 to not knowing exactly what they want at degree level.

Got a lab group meeting tomorrow to try and put it all together into a report and I still haven’t finished the stats.

Other than that still enjoying the social life but getting sick of going out all the time.

Im also now the treasurer of taekwondo society.

Homesickness

Homesickness sucks tonight it really hit me how much I miss home spoke to my mam earlier on and now the only decent thing on tv is law and order.

Law and order is me and my mam show which I always watch with her on a night when she gets in for work and dad is on back turns.

As much as I love my course I wanna go home.

Week 1 is over eeek

It weired feeling that I’m into my second week of uni already, but things are going good. I think I now know how to follow our Human Physiology lectures which are interesting if hard to understand.

Had a few lab sessions aswell but they were mainly a revision of A2 level chemistry. The long summer between sixth form and uni isn’t really good as I seem to have forgotten 90% of the formulas I learnt in chemistry eek.

First taekwondo session at the uni club tonight looking forward to it but worried as well as the club I came from was really good and the one im going to is only starting this year.

Fresher and first proper day at uni

Well freshers week 1 is over and ive had my first lecture.

Overall fresher was good but my uni didn’t really offer anything other than going out getting drunk which was fun for the first few days but got old pretty quickly going to try and get on the fresher board for next year and help change that.

In the spirt of fresher I have so far

Dressed in neon for a roller disco

White for a UV part

Naughty school girl

Fresher t-shirt for a foam party

Still have a commando party to go but don’t think im dressing up for that one

First lecture was a weird experience spent an hour on homeostasis which I still don’t understand so will be spending my first day off reading about. Luckily no one I have spoke to understood it either.

Below is a pic of my new room. Im generally loving uni but missing my dogs.

Revision list

Being home alone is really weird but has made me realise just how bad a cook I am. Took me an hour to clean the kitchen after making pasta bake. Also the dogs had me up at 9.30am shock I normally don’t surface till 1pm.

Managed to get a list of all the maths we will be using next year which includes,

Descriptive statistics
Variation
Standard deviation
Standard error
Normal distribution
Z scores
Coefficients of variation
Confidence limits

This lot should be fun as I haven’t done maths since A2 in year 11.

Tomorrows plan is to write letters for work experience
Find names and address of hospitals and GPs in the city my unis in
Try and find a job in uni city
Start maths revision
Start my mountain of washing

Leeds festival 2008

Just a quick blog about my weekend adventure to Leeds festival which was eventful to say the least.

Wednesday

We had early entry so went down on Wednesday which was the biggest mistake ever after spending 4 hours in the queue to get in its started to rain just after we got through the gate into brown and had to walk to red.

Once the tent was up, the rain had stopped and car was emptied, we sat down and the rain started again within an hour it had rained so much the water was coming thought the side of the tent. The two girls decided enough was enough and went back to the car with the hope of finding a travel lodge sadly they were all fully booked so we were forced to sleep in the car.

Thursday

After the flooded tent last night a trip to Tesco was in order to buy another tent however since Thursday is the day most people arrive it took 3 hours to get there and back but atleast we could relax once it was up and start and enjoy the festival.

In the end we saw loads of bands and it was a great weekend the rain mainly stayed away but the campsite was a mud bath.

its never over the route has just changed

Im a 18 year old female who has just royally screwed up her Alevels now doing biomedical sciences and hoping to chase graduate medicine. This will be my diary of the trials and tribulations along the way over the next three years and hopefully beyond into medicine.
